London South East Colleges – Karen Oliver, Strategic Programme Manager
Tackling loneliness and supporting local residents.
London South East Colleges’ students have been supporting the London Borough of Bromley’s Tackling Loneliness Initiative, by welcoming local residents into our BR6 Restaurant for a series of complimentary lunches.
Two Warm Wednesday events were held in February, when guests were offered a choice of hot dishes including chicken curry and vegetable lasagne cooked by our Hospitality students. Welcomed and served by our Prince’s Trust students, they were also treated to a free raffle as they discussed local services available including health, wellbeing and financial support.
This is the second year that we have worked with the London Borough of Bromley to support local residents facing loneliness – an event so popular that we’ll be hosting our first Summer Wellbeing Wednesday Lunch on the 19th of June. The menu includes roasted tomato tartlet and strawberry cheesecake!
These well-received events demonstrate the strong community links between London South East Colleges and local residents, many of whom have either attended the college or know someone that has. By volunteering in their local community, our students understand the importance of what they are doing and the skills they are learning as they can see the impact directly on those living nearby.
