Volunteer Hero - Paul Hamlin
Paul regularly volunteers as an enterprise adviser across Greater Manchester with the GMCA, providing careers talks in struggling schools aimed at inspiring young people to look beyond what they know and to encourage that there’s a wide world of opportunity.
He also uses his extensive experience and knowledge in manufacturing and logistics to deliver career talks and workshops in FE colleges. Volunteering with Career Ready, his talks focus on key areas of employment within the logistics industry.
“For me, it’s about giving young people the mentality that they can aspire to be what they want to be. There’s lots of career routes available out there and it’s my job to show it to them. I also feel I’m at a stage in my life where I want to give back and to help others,” said Paul.
He also volunteers with Enactus, acting as a judge, who work with university students to allow them to become entrepreneurial leaders and social innovators, which often lead to some amazing community enterprise projects.
Not only that, but for the last two years, Paul took up the voluntary role of wellbeing lead for the CIPD Manchester branch (one of the largest with 7,000 members) running workshops and giving advice on how people can learn about their own wellbeing and how to help
